Free Page Hosting

Your ISP

Before looking for webhosting you should check your own isp account.  Many times internet service providers allow anywhere from 5 to 50mb as part of your dialup account.  This is the best option.  Things that need to be considered are (1) what the account will be used for (2) how much disk space is allowed.  Pages created as part of my basic package will easily come under 5mb.   If your isp will not meet your needs there are several options listed below.

Fortune City

Allows commercial space and offers a good ftp connection that offers easy file management.  20mb of space for your page.   This website is hosted by Fortune City.

Tripod

Now a part of the Lycos Network.  Tripod has a good ftp connection which offers easy file management.  13mb the last time I checked.  Tripod requires a popup window.

Xoom

11mb of disk space for your page.  Xoom has ftp and offers java based chatrooms.  Xoom's ftp doesn't have a good file management interface.  I'm still trying to figure out how to delete obsolete files from my Xoom page.  There must be a way but I haven't mastered it yet.

Geocities

11mb of space.  Geocities was one of the first to offer free hosting.   They have popup windows and an annoying little "g" watermark that floats in the lower right corner of the screen.  Their ftp can sometimes be difficult to connect to.  I suggest chosing another option.

Angelfire

I have not tried Angelfire yet.  It appears to be a good service and I will be signing on for a test account soon.

The Freesite.com

This is a comprehensive list of free hosting services.  You should read through the reviews as they contain current information about hosting options.
